We left Reykjavik under heavy clouds after an incredible windy and stormy night.  On our drive into the Highlands, we passed through every weather system that mother nature could offer us.  It was not long until we began to see fresh snow on the mountain tops.  I must admit, I started thinking COLD however, I knew that the change in weather would bring wonderful shooting opportunities.  Everyone was in awe of the dramatic landscapes we passed through as we started the final climb into the Highlands of Iceland.  Are you guys ready to push some buttons? I really didn’t have to ask.

The Rangers refer to the Alpha Male of a Chimp family as the President and the second in command as the Deputy. During my last tour to Kibale, I photographed Muguzi on several occasions. He was a very stoic Chimpanzee, totally at ease when were around him. When I arrived this trip, the Rangers told me that we had a new President.

When they say the surf is up, they really mean it. What made for wonderful surfing also made for some great wave photography on the North Shore of Kauai.

Another location that you should not journey to under high surf conditions or high tide is the rocky outreach north of Ke’ee Beach. Again, I undertook this location in hopes of getting some great high wave images, but not without first taking a hard look at the ocean state and weather.

For those of you that think global warming is nonsense, you really need to think again. Our object today was to photograph the inside of an Ice Cave, something I had been looking forward to for some time. The temperature at the entrance was what we would normally expect in the summer months, 6 degrees C. Higher than normal temperature means lots of thawing, rain vs. snow means lots of water. At the end of the day, the entrance was simply to dangerous to enter. Unstable roof area, falling rocks, raging water....get the picture.

Hello from Hawaii. I've been on Hawaii for the past 6 days in hopes of photographing some volcano activity. Before I took on the volcano I decided to shoot some seascapes. With difficult weather and high wind waves, access to some of the more desirable locations was not possible. Thanks to a young photographer who joined me, we landed a location for a sunrise.

While leading a recent Muench Photography Workshop in northeastern Norway, I took some time to wander around town with my clients and our guide.  One of the sites we visited was the Steilneset Memorial, located in Vardo, Norway.

Friday is a travel day for me and I am off to the Palouse area of Washington State to lead another Muench Workshop. This area is known for its green rolling hills (spring) that are similar to those in Tuscany, only these are much more pronounced and require specially modified equipment for cultivation. Looking forward to showing my clients this magical area of Washington.

Continuing our journey into the winter wonderland of Iceland.  On the Vatnsnes Peninsula in North-West Iceland just off shore stands the majestic Hvítserkur, a 15 meters' high monolith.  The legend goes that Hvítserkur is a petrified troll. The troll lived in Strandir and wanted to tear down the bells at Þingeyrarklaustur convent. But fortunately it was caught in the open during the very early hours of sunrise.
