Falklands, South Georgia, Antarctica

Falklands, South Georgia, Antarctica

oin us for a Southern Ocean adventure like no other! On this all-inclusive 22-day journey, we’ll experience the region’s best, including the subantarctic Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic peninsula. This trip has it all! We’ll encounter diverse and abundant wildlife, be awed by expansive landscapes, and visit historic sites that evoke the days of early exploration.

We’ve timed our expedition for the end of the Antarctic spring and the very beginning of summer, one of the best times for photography in the region. In the subantarctic islands, this is courtship time for seabirds; vast numbers are gathering. King, macaroni, gentoo, and chinstrap penguins are mating and beginning to tend eggs, and the previous year’s king penguin chicks are shedding their down. Wandering albatross chicks—nearly grown by now—are beginning to test their wings. Elephant seals are consolidating their harems as females arrive en masse to the beaches, and a few fur seals may also be spotted. On the peninsula, snowfall is still likely during late spring, adding drama to icy landscapes and wildlife tableaus, and whales are starting to arrive at their summer feeding grounds in the region’s nutrient-rich waters. Expect rapidly changing spring weather but also dramatic skies and unparalleled light conditions. Fewer visitors this time of year means greater opportunities to explore.

For this journey, we’ll be traveling aboard the ice-strengthened vessel, Polar Pioneer. The Polar Pioneer is a small, extremely sturdy expedition ship that provides regular expedition cruises in polar waters. Built in Finland in 1985 as an ice-strengthened research vessel, she was refurbished in 2021 and 2022 to provide a comfortable range of triple, twin, and suite cabin options for a maximum of 54 expeditioners. We are offering double and single-occupancy cabins on this expedition.

The highly-experienced crew ensures that this incredible ship is always in excellent condition and that guests’ experience is of the highest quality. The single, twin, and suite cabins are stylish and luxurious, and the large, spacious bridge offers incredible views of some of the world’s most staggering landscapes and seascapes. Meals on board are quite good—the breakfast buffet has both continental and hot options, lunch is served at your table, and the day ends with a three-course dinner. You won’t go hungry! Mealtimes are set by us and are based on our shore excursions—photography first.

East Greenland by Luxury Yacht

Greenland has some of the most picturesque landscapes you’ll ever see. With nine days on our purpose-built, just-the-right-small-size, luxurious expedition ship Polarfront, we will journey through the Scoresby Sund, photographing astonishing glaciers, mountains, and icebergs. We’ll fly over from Reykjavik, thus maximizing our time in the Fjords.

We may see Arctic hare and muskox while taking one of our many walks onshore. We’ll anchor in just the right spots to photograph sunrise and sunset from shore, using tripods and filters, in addition to all the handheld work done from the deck of the boat. With clear skies and good solar activity, we have an excellent chance to photograph the northern lights as well.

When we’re not photographing or enjoying a fresh, gourmet meal—this is a French ship, after all!—we’ll be reviewing images and learning post-processing techniques. Bring your laptop and enjoy editing in the main salon, or simply read your favorite book and sip on some hot tea while we’re sailing to the next location.

Expect a group of like-minded photographers who will want to work hard to “get the shot.” You can expect to fine-tune your “art of seeing” and improve your landscape photography skills on this expedition.

Iceland Highlands
Sep

to Sep 10

Iceland Highlands

Our particular focus on this workshop will be accessing the remote areas of Iceland’s central and southern Highlands. You will see and photograph areas that are seldom photographed on other workshops.

For centuries, the interior of Iceland was virtually inaccessible for years playing host only to outlaws in hiding. Via the mountain roads Kjölur and Sprengisandur, the untouched wilderness of Iceland’s mountainous center is now open—for cautious exploration by foot or 4×4 vehicles—in the summer months. Join this small group lead by a Muench Workshops pro and our very own viking, on this amazing photo adventure. This workshop is limited to only 8 guests, and everything is included: all meals, double occupancy lodging (singles available, just ask), transportation by 4×4 Super Jeeps, and photographic guiding and instruction from two professionals.

Some of the most interesting parts of Iceland with volcanic activity are to be found in the highlands, such as Landmannalaugar and the region around Askja and Herðubreið, the national mountain of Iceland. The highlands are mostly an uninhabitable volcanic desert with phenomenal photography locations in the few oasis of the dessert, which can be crossed only during the Icelandic summer (typically from June through September). For the rest of the year, the highland roads are closed. Most highland roads require four-wheel drive vehicles because it is necessary to ford rivers and rough terrain. On our workshop, we use specially modified 4×4 Super Jeeps and our Icelandic Viking Guide, Skarpi, who has years of experience camping, hiking, and exploring the highlands. We will be doing some moderate hiking to the best shooting locations in the highlands, so please bring your hiking boots. We’ll chase the light, out for sunrise, then day-shooting where it’s good, and sunset. This is the time of year it is possible to photograph the Northern Lights, so if it’s clear, we’ll be out looking for the Aurora.

Svalbard Artic Expedition

Svalbard Artic Expedition

Svalbard’s location between continental Norway and the North Pole places it squarely in an area with some of the most impressive displays of wildlife in one of the largest undisturbed arctic environments on the planet. Glaciers, snow-covered mountain ranges, and fjords cover much of the archipelago. We hope to see and photograph polar bears, many types of seabirds, reindeer, arctic fox, whales, walruses, and other marine mammals.

Since it is a series of islands, Svalbard is best explored by private expedition ship. We’ve strictly limited this workshop to 12 guests on our own private, ice-strengthened ship. With such a high instructor-to-guest ratio, there will be plenty of time for one-on-one instruction and our signature image reviews. We will work with you in the field to capture better wildlife and landscapes images. Back on the ship, we will show you how to process your images so that you’d be proud to hang them on your wall.

The focus of this workshop will be the abundant wildlife—think polar bears on ice, breeding birds, walrus, whales, and seals. Then there is the awe-inspiring scenery that surrounds you. Our schedule has been designed to optimize our time on small-boat excursions. We use two large Zodiacs to get off the ship and get close to the wildlife, and into the frozen landscape. With 24 hours of daylight, the photography never stops!

Don’t wait! This is one of our most popular workshops, and sells out early, year after year.

Tuscany and Cinque Terre

Tuscany and Cinque Terre

Tuscany and Cinque Terre offer an incredible mix of old-world cities, beautiful rolling hills, and dramatic coastline in the region that is known as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.

In Florence, we will photograph the piazzas, people, Arno River, Ponte Vecchio, and many highlights of the surrounding region, including Belvedere in the Orcia Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is here where the rolling hills and farmland lay perfectly formed in the warm, rising sun. Photograph the olive trees and vineyards of San Gimignano and the reflecting ponds of Terrapille near Montichiello nestled amongst the rolling hills and rape fields. We’ll have a fantastic view of the Orcia Valley from Castiglione d’Orcia and the medieval castle tower at the town center. Pitigliano is built on top of a hill, entirely out of tufa rocks.

That’s just a small sampling of what we’ll experience in Tuscany before we head to Cinque Terre, a coastal region encompassing five villages hugging the dramatic coastline. Each village has its own charm and personality, and we will explore and photograph each of them. The waves crashing on the jagged coast of Riomaggiore, a harbor town with cobalt-blue fishing boats, and buildings painted in the bright colors of the Ligurian style. Manarola is a highly picturesque village, and home to colorful houses clinging to rugged cliffs.

Under the guidance of Randy Hanna, you will practice your composition skills and learn new techniques for managing the light in your landscapes. Of course, we’ll also make time for our signature image reviews and post-processing instruction for accentuating your images in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. You’ll return home with a hard drive full of images, and fond memories of the food, the people, and the beauty of this incredible region.

Atacama & Bolivia Salt Flats

Atacama & Bolivia Salt Flats

When the winter rains flow down from the high Andes that surround the Bolivia flats, the water spills out onto sections of the 11,000 square kilometer area, creating a stunning, sparse landscape with incredible reflections.

To reach this spectacular location, we’ll take an overland adventure through the Andes, reaching altitudes of up to 16,000 feet with volcanoes reaching as high as 21,000 feet. We’ll spend the first nights at 8,000 feet, so everyone has time to acclimate for the higher elevations we will visit later, in Bolivia. But those days “acclimating” will be filled with photography, too! We’ll photograph the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), Laguna Chaxa (Los Flamencos National Reserve), and Humdedal de Putana (Putana Wetland).

Then we’ll pack into Land Cruisers and head to the Bolivia salt flats. We will have a few long drives through amazing landscapes of the high Andes mountains as we venture north into Bolivia to the town of Uyuni and beyond. We’ll visit Laguna Colorado (home of three species of flamingo, as well as many other birds), Isla Incahuasi (large cacti hill), as well as many more great and exotic locations.

By day, Randy and Cecilia will teach you techniques to best capture the reflections of the salt flats, and we’ll shoot well into the spectacular, star-filled night skies. We will also have our famous image critiques and Lightroom instruction.

Everything is covered from the airport pickup in Calama, Chile, to the airport shuttle in Paz, Bolivia. You are expected to acclimate to 16,000 feet for this workshop, and there will be oxygen carried in each vehicle for emergencies. Due to the high altitude, there is an age limit for this workshop: you must be fit and 70 or younger

Amboseli National Park Extension

Amboseli National Park Extension

This is an extension to our October 2021 Kenya Safari.

Amboseli lies close to the border between Kenya and Tanzania and is dominated by the continent’s highest mountain—Kilimanjaro. It has Africa’s highest density of elephants per square mile, as well as the exceptional diversity of wildlife.

Capped with snow and ascending into a blue abyss, Mt. Kilimanjaro soars to 19,340 feet and provides a stunning backdrop for our safari on private land adjacent to Amboseli National Park. The area has varied habitat with open plains, umbrella acacia woodland, and emerald green swamps and surrounding marshlands created from the melting snows of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The open plains of the dry lake-bed give a desert-like appearance. But it is the springs that rim its eastern margins that act as magnets for the game we seek. Here, ostrich and oryx rear up out of the shimmering heat like reflections in a pool, allowing for some of the most fabulous wildlife viewing and photography in all of East Africa.

We’re staying in comfort Muench-style at one of the best camps in the area, with all the expected amenities: amazing food, luxurious accommodations with en-suite facilities, and hot showers. Expect to be immersed in photography and safari from before sunup until after sunset. Everyone can expect to learn the finer points of wildlife photography and to refine “the art of seeing,” where you will work on improving your compositions. In the evenings and during downtimes, we will be working with you on image reviews and post-processing.

On Safari - Kenya II - One Spot Left

Join veteran Muench Workshops pro Randy Hanna on this exclusive small-group wildlife safari in Kenya’s Masai Mara and Lewa Conservancy. You will be on led and guided to some of the best wildlife photography experiences on the planet in our favorite locations.

We start our safari in the arid north, in Lewa. We are in an amazing resort lodge in the middle of one of the most beautiful wildlife preserves on earth. We'll have three days and nights here to photograph the diverse wildlife. We'll get out of the vehicles, we'll shoot the stars, and we'll burn up many memory cards going after the predators, birds, and over 70 different mammal species. We are set to photograph some of the most spectacular wildlife that Kenya has to offer: lion, leopard and jackal thrive on the rich diversity of prey that inhabits the area. The Wildlife Conservancy is home to the largest concentration of Grevy’s zebra in the world, and its range of habitats attracts diverse birdlife and hosts over 130 Black and White rhino. Here also is the one place we can see and photograph the Reticulated giraffe.

A short flight on “Air Muench” and we’re next in the Masai Mara. Depending on the arrival of the rains, the great migration should be here in the Mara when wildebeest and zebra herds numbering hundreds of thousands thunder over the plains to the riverbanks and hurtle through waters teeming with immense Nile crocodile. But it’s not just the migration, we’ll photograph the Big 5 (lion, cape buffalo, leopard, elephant, and rhino) as well as carnivores including cheetah, hyena, jackal, serval, wild dog and bat-eared fox. There are numerous antelopes too, and the massive Masai giraffe, the tallest mammal on land! The Masai Mara is also a haven for birdlife, containing over 470 resident and migrant species! Approximately 60 of these consist of raptors, such as eagles, kites, harriers, hawks, falcons and kestrels. There are majestic ostrich too, in addition to herons, egrets, bitterns, grebes, pelicans, cormorants, ibises, spoonbills, rails, crakes, secretary birds and the glamorous crowned crane.

Everything’s all-inclusive, you’ll have amazing food, comfy lodgings, and in plenty of space in our vehicles for you and your gear. Expect to be immersed in photography and safari from before sunup until after sunset. Everyone can expect to learn the finer points of wildlife photography, and to practice and refine “the art of seeing” where you will work on the best compostions. In the evenings and during downtimes, Randy will be working with you on image reviews and post-processing. Are you ready for a Muench Safari?

Iceland From Above

To describe Iceland’s Highlands requires many superlatives. The region contains Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull, Iceland’s tallest mountain, and some of Iceland’s most active volcanoes: Hekla, Eyjafjallajökull, and Katla. The Highlands are also home to many other notable peaks, as well as moss-covered passes, mighty waterfalls, ancient basalt formations, wildlife-rich oases, and unique vegetation.

We’ll have our own private helicopter, as well as a super jeep, to get us way off the beaten path. Bring your camera, bring your drone, bring your tripod, they’ll all get used! We’ll be flying over braided rivers, volcanic craters, and high-altitude lakes, then hiking to waterfalls and geologic formations. With such a high instructor-to-guest ratio, there will be plenty of time for individualized attention. Expect to learn about aerial photography from Marc and Randy, who have logged hundreds of hours of photography time in helicopters. Randy is a former Army Helicopter pilot and Marc and Randy currently hold commercial drone pilots licenses.

We’ll be staying at a comfortable hotel, close to our photography destinations. When not photographing, we’ll take time for our signature image reviews, critiques, and post-processing instruction.

This workshop has a minimum requirement of 6 guests!

East Greenland, a Photographic Sailing Adventure

Canceled COVID-19

Join Muench Workshops in East Greenland! Greenland is the world’s largest island, covered by the second largest (after Antarctica) body of ice in the world. While it contains only one national park, that park is the world’s largest, spanning over 375,000 sq mi of the interior and northeastern coast. The human population, predominantly Inuit, is spread loosely along the coast in small villages. Due to the influence of the mild Greenland Current, wildlife thrives here, at sea and ashore—fish, marine invertebrates, seabirds, and other migratory birds are plentiful; polar bear, reindeer, arctic fox, arctic hare, musk ox, collared lemming, ermine, and arctic wolf can all be spotted. Several species of whales and seals are regular or seasonal visitors.

Greenland’s landscape is rugged and striking. While most of the island is obscured by a massive ice sheet, the ice-free eastern coast is folded into a series of steep fjords and isolated bays. Because of its vastness and relative inaccessibility, the best and most comfortable way to see East Greenland’s shoreline is via expedition ship. To this end, we’ve chartered the Dutch-built ketch-rigged oceangoing sailing yacht, S/V Arktika, for our East Greenland Sailing Expedition workshop. Comfortable and spacious, Artika is built and equipped to easily handle navigation in ice, and her large saloon, galley, and guest cabins will provide a perfect mobile base for our explorations. The hospitality aboard Arktika is renowned—expect plenty of gourmet meals, and a friendly and engaging crew.

On this seven day journey, we’ll travel to the enormous Sermilik icefjord, explore narrow fjords, visit small villages such as Tiniteqilaq, Kummiut, and Sermiligaaq, and cruise the coastline in search of wildlife. By night, we’ll drop anchor in remote bays, and look for the northern lights. You’ll get plenty of instruction on how best to capture an array of subjects, and of course we’ll also make time for some one-on-one instruction and group image reviews.

Slovenia

Canceled COVID-19

Situated to the southeast of Central Europe, Slovenia touches the Alps to the northwest, and the Mediterranean to the southwest. Historically at the crossroads of many important European trade routes, Slovenia’s language, culture and architecture draw from many influences. In Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, baroque facades mix with the 20th-century architecture of native Jože Plečnik, whose iconic Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) spans the tightly curving Ljubljanica River. Slovenia’s terrain is largely mountainous, and the country is known for its alpine forests and lakes. The town of Bled, on spring fed Lake Bled, boasts a church-adorned island and a cliffside medieval castle. Other lakes, such as Bohinj, offer equally scenic views of the Julian Alps.

The Slovenia Workshop is led by Randy Hanna and Luka Esenko. Both are well-versed in Slovenia; Luka lives and guides in the country full time and Randy has been photographing in Slovenia a number of times. We’ll be traveling by comfortable minivan, staying in well-chosen high-quality accommodations, and eating wonderful local foods. We’ll be photographing a wealth of natural features, as well as the agricultural lands, markets, culture, and architecture of this varied land. Along the way, you’ll learn the finer points of composition and the “art of seeing.” We’ll spend time in the field helping you with long exposures, panoramas, HDR, and night photography too. We will also spend time in the “classroom” where we’ll do image reviews and post-processing with Lightroom. Expect to work hard, and to learn a lot!

Polar Bear Arctic Expedition - 2020

Canceled COVID-19

Join me and Marc Muench on another exciting Muench Workshops photo expedition to Svalbard in June 2019, specially arranged for nature photography enthusiasts. We have chartered our own private ship, the M/S Origo, for this expedition. Strictly limited to 12 guests, we will have three pros on board for a very high instructor-to-guest ratio.

We will focus on wildlife, including the polar bears on ice, birds, and seals. This is a great opportunity to experience arctic ice in the polar landscape. Our schedule is arranged to optimize our time to observe and photograph the wildlife on our excursions from the boat. Two Zodiac boats will get everyone closer to the wildlife on the ice, or to explore the amazing frozen landscape of the glaciers. With 24 hours of sun, magic hour will last hours—making for many more opportunities to witness the unique and wild qualities of this amazing land. We are omitting the traditional “cruise-ship” stops as these would take too much time from our photographic opportunities.

Atacama & Bolivia Salt Flats

The Bolivia salt flats are the largest in the world, almost 11,000 square kilometers. At this particular time of year it can fill with water from winter rains draining the high Andes that surround the flats. This will be an adventure to a unique and surreal landscape starting in one of the driest places on the earth, the Atacama Desert of Chile, and ending in La Paz, Bolivia. Because of the high altitude of the salt flats and surrounding Andes, we begin the trip at the lower altitude in the historic village of San Pedro de Atacama and travel through the Andes through many amazing locations, where the gua

Join me and Cecilia Costa for this photography adventure. You’ll learn all about your camera settings and techniques to capture the reflections of the salt flats as well as the spectacular night skies in the Atacama, which are coveted by all the world’s astronomers. We’ve designed this workshop to spend 3 nights at 8,000 feet so everyone has time to acclimate for the higher locations visited later in the trip in Bolivia. While acclimating in San Pedro de Atacama, we’ll photograph the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), Laguna Chaxa (Los Flamencos National Reserve) and Humdedal de Putana (Putana Wetland). These unique landscapes are at different elevations allowing all to acclimate and photograph a variety of landscapes.

Then we’ll pack into Land Cruisers and head to the Bolivia salt flats. There are a few long drives through amazing landscapes of the high Andes mountains as we venture north into Bolivia to the town of Uyuni and beyond. We’ll visit Laguna Colorado (home of 3 species of flamingo, as well as many other birds), Isla Incahuasi (large cacti hill) as well as many more great and exotic locations.

You’ll fly into the town of Calama, Chile and out of La Paz, Bolivia. Everything is covered from the airport pickup in Calama to the airport shuttle in La Paz. You will be expected to acclimate to 16,000 feet for the trip. There will be oxygen carried in each vehicle for emergencies use if needed. Because of this, there is an age limit for this workshop, you must be fit and 70 or younger.

Nordic Landscapes and Northern Lights

Come with me to the Norwegian Arctic Circle, and photograph the dramatic Lofoten Islands. We’ll spend five days photographing jagged mountain peaks in and around Lofoten, then fly to the region known as Senja, for more amazing steep mountain landscapes, and hopefully, northern lights. You’ll photograph icy fjords and frozen lakes, rocky seacoasts, turquoise water, white sand beaches, rustic fishing villages, and more. If we’re lucky, and the weather is clear, we will be treated to some of the best northern lights on the planet. This workshop will be led and guided by Randy Hanna and Muench Workshops local pro and guide Cody Duncan, who has logged more days photographing along the northern coast of Norway than most anyone! Most shooting locations are very near to where we’ll park our vehicles. You’ll need to be able to walk on uneven, and at times, slippery and icy ground. There will be some opportunities for the more adventurous types to hike or climb a little bit.

We will teach techniques in high dynamic range shooting, panoramas, long exposures during the day (and night!), and star and aurora imagery. Shooting is our priority, so expect to be out in the field plenty! We will also feature our much-loved image reviews, critiques, and post-processing instruction with Lightroom. Get ready for an other-worldly experience in Norway!

Antarctia Photography Expedition - 2019

Join me and 10 other Professional Photographers on this 12-day all-inclusive photographic Muench Workshop expedition where you’ll have opportunities to photograph the beautiful and diverse wildlife and incredible polar landscapes of the Southern Ocean and the Antarctic Peninsula. We’ve timed our expedition at the end of Antarctic spring and the very beginning of summer, when there’s still a chance for fresh snow and the wildlife is beginning to be most active.

This year’s expedition is longer than our previous trips: we have 7 full days at the Antarctic Peninsula—more than most expeditions. Because our ship and group size are smaller, we have access to all approved landing spots in the South Shetland Islands and Antarctica—we can go places where the large cruise ships can’t. Not only that, but our smaller group size allows us more time for photography at each landing, something that is severely compromised when you are on a ship that has more than 100 passengers.

This expedition will mark my 5th time into Antarctica, a place that is so awe-inspiring that I find myself returning as often as I can. The white is so pure and the silence is deafening. Join us!

East Greenland, a Photographic Sailing Adventure

East Greenland, a Photographic Sailing Adventure

Join me in Greenland, aboard the sailing yacht Arktika with a small group of only six guests, to explore the striking landscapes, ice-filled fjords, sea life, and small iconic villages nestled in protected harbors along East Greenland’s rugged shoreline. With only 3,500 inhabitants scattered along a 1,600-mile coastline, this pristine wilderness is known for spectacular scenery and breathtaking beauty.

We’ll view the big Sermilik icefjord, cruise the waterways, and visit small iconic villages such as Tiniteqilaq, Kummiut, and Sermiligaaq. We’ll drop anchor in secluded remote locations among gorgeous seascapes and fjords, with the gentle lapping of water against the ship’s hull to lull you to sleep. Because early autumn in the Arctic is the best time for the Northern Lights, we hope to see them dance and photograph them in their multi-color glory among the stars. Over seven days and six nights aboard Arktika, we’ll experience incredible scenery with a group of like-minded photographer-traveler-adventurer who want to get great shots while improving their skills. You will get plenty of instruction in the field and in the digital darkroom.

Aboard Arktika, which will serve as our “mobile camp,” you will experience the crew’s incredible hospitality along with gourmet meals, comfortable warm bunks, and friendly engaging conversation. Arktika is a Dutch-built ketch-rigged oceangoing sailing yacht that is fully equipped and certified to sail around the world. She has a comfortable deckhouse, a spacious saloon, large galley, and four guest cabins. The sailboat has good central heating, hot and cold water, heads (toilet) and shower. There is 220V electricity to charge batteries and other electronic devices.

Tuscany and Cinque Terre, Italy

FULLY BOOKED

Join me and Paolo De Faveri on a stunning photo workshop in Tuscany and Cinque Terre. This workshop is an incredible mix of old-world cities and towns, mixed with the beautiful rolling hills and dramatic coastline of the region. Known as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, Tuscany is our starting point, when we meet in Florence, where we will photograph the piazzas and people, the Arno River, and Ponte Vecchio. From this base, we’ll spend the next six days exploring many highlights of the region, including Belvedere in the Orcia Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the rolling hills and farmland lay perfectly formed in the warm, rising sun. We’ll enjoy tasty, local foods as we drink in the local culture. We’ll enjoy the olive trees and vineyards of San Gimignano. The reflecting ponds of Terrapille (near Montichiello) await, nestled amongst the rolling hills and rape fields. We’ll have a fantastic view of the Orcia Valley from Castiglione d’Orcia and the medieval castle tower at town center. Pitigliano is an amazing town built on top of a hill, entirely out of tufa rocks. This is only a small sample of what we’ll experience in Tuscany, before we head to Cinque Terre, where we will photograph the waves crashing on the jagged coast of Riomaggiore, a harbor town with cobalt-blue fishing boats, and buildings painted in the bright colors of the Ligurian style. Manarola is a highly picturesque village, and home to colorful houses clinging to rugged cliffs.

There is so much to photograph on this eleven-day workshop, you’ll return home with a drive full of images, and fond memories of the food, the people, and the beauty of this incredible region.

Tanzania - The Calving Season

FULLY BOOKED

Join me in Tanzania with Muench Workshops to photograph the calving season of the great migration, the big cats of the central Serengeti region, and amazing landscapes. I have been been leading safaris into the Serengeti of Tanzania since 2007 and know the country like the back of my hand. You will be flown straight into the heart of the safari country, where we have amazing camps set up that put us right in the thick of the action!

This safari is all about photography and you can expect lots of it. There will be photographic instruction and critiques along the way to make sure your safari is a success. Plan for long days as we work hard to capture those iconic and unique images that are associated with this part of the Great Migration.

Our first location will be a tented camp in the Central Serengeti, an area that Randy often refers to as “Cat Alley.” Here our emphasis will be on lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Exploring the numerous rocky outcroppings called kopjes, you will get to capture the true endless plains of the Serengeti and the unlimited photography that is all around you. We will be able to follow the game, wherever they take us.

Our second camp will be in the Ndutu area, within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This time of the year, the Ndutu area is full of massive herds of wildebeest and zebra, both giving birth to their young. Antelope will also be in the midst of calving, so predators will be everywhere. All of this activity makes for some remarkable photographic opportunities. If you have not seen the great migration during calving season, it is a sight to be seen and certainly one that will be remembered for years to come.

Our third and final camp will be on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, which is one of the ‘seven wonders of the world.’ Located just above 7,000 feet in elevation, we will be positioned to descend into the crater at first light. The crater has its own unique ecosystem, with prides of lion, herds of elephant, and the largest population of rhinos in Tanzania. All of these features combine to make this location unique, fascinating, and full of non-stop photography.
