San Giorgio Maggiore

This view of San Giorgio Maggiore is from the grand promenade which is most commonly accesses from the Piazza San Marco/Saint Mark’s Square and St. Mark’s Basilica.  I chose to photograph this church at first light to maximize use of a slow shutter speed to blur the gondolas in the foreground.

Positioning the camera took some time to avoid tangenciesbetween the top of the pilings and the background elements.  The other element I had to deal with was the motion of the pilings.

Shooting details:  Hasselblad H6D50C, 35-90mm @ 35mm, ISO 100, f/11 at 8 seconds.
