This morning I took a gamble and headed to the Hidden Valley, an area located just southwest of Naabi Hill in the Serengeti. This area has produced some great images for me in the past, and today was no exception. We watched and photographed a wonderful pride of lions.
Photographing wildlife can keep you on your toes and force you to change your course at a moment’s notice. Like today, while I was photographing a large male lion when suddenly, the pride began to walk toward us. I had to decide: Do I keep the large lens on, knowing I would be forced into a portrait at close range? Do I risk missing the shot if I were to grab a 70-200?
In the end I decided to go for the portrait with the longer lens and an aperture that would yield a soft background.
